UNICEF Venture Fund 2026: Up to $100,000 for Climate & Health Startups

The UNICEF Venture Fund has launched a high-stakes call for applications, seeking to invest in the next generation of “Climate Ventures.” This initiative is dedicated to backing startups that use frontier technology to protect children from the escalating threats of climate change, such as extreme heat, pollution, and disease outbreaks.

UNICEF is looking for bold, open-source solutions that are ready to deploy in emerging markets. If you are building a scalable tech solution that puts children’s health at the center of climate action, this is your opportunity to secure global backing.

The Investment Package

Successful startups will receive a comprehensive support package to accelerate their growth:

  • Funding: Up to US$100,000 in equity-free seed funding.
  • Technical Support: Access to UNICEF’s data science and engineering teams to help refine your product.
  • Network: Connections to a global network of mentors, partners, and other frontier tech founders.
  • Case Studies: Support in building evidence of your impact to help secure future investment.

Priority Tech Areas

The fund specifically targets startups leveraging “Frontier Technology,” including:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning: For predictive analytics, climate mapping, and disease forecasting.
  • Blockchain: For decentralized data, smart contracts, and transparent disaster financing.
  • Internet of Things (IoT): For real-time environmental monitoring in schools and clinics.
  • Open Source: All solutions must be committed to open-source licensing to ensure they can be adapted globally.

The Four Investment Pillars

UNICEF is focusing its 2026 Climate Ventures cohort on four strategic areas:

  • Area 1: Strategic Planning: Tools for climate hazard mapping, carbon accounting, and optimizing the delivery of limited resources to vulnerable areas.
  • Area 2: Early Warning, Early Action: Hyper-local alert systems for floods or heatwaves and blockchain-enabled disaster insurance.
  • Area 3: Healthcare Readiness: Predictive tools for seasonal disease surges (like malaria or dengue) and IoT sensors for monitoring air quality in public spaces.
  • Area 4: Point-of-Care Support: Multilingual AI tools for community health workers and decentralized systems for managing health data in emergencies.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the $100,000 investment, startups must meet the following:

  • Registration: Must be registered in a UNICEF program country.
  • Prototype: You must have a working prototype of your open-source technology.
  • Target Audience: Women-led startups and young founders are especially encouraged to apply.
